BCHS recognizes nursing staff

Five nurses, a member of the nursing support staff, and a service department were recognized recently during Battle Creek Health System's 2009 Nursing Excellence Awards activities.

Family, friends, colleagues, and administration were on hand to offer congratulations. The awardees included:

• The Nursing Practice Award honors a nurse who exemplifies outstanding clinical and service excellence as demonstrated with care and compassion: Julie Banghart, BSN, RN
• Education and Continuous Learning Award recognizes a nurse who has made significant contributions to the education of peers, colleagues, students, patients, or members of the community through informal/at-the-bedside teaching, development or implementation of formal education materials, programs, or curriculum and through the publication of articles, other media, or public speaking: Elizabeth Shepard, BSN, RN


• The Innovation Award honors a nurse who has made significant contributions to BCHS and the profession of nursing by the use or conduct of research, and the dissemination of evidence-based practice findings, or results of theoretical or clinical research: Sheree Keeler, RN


• The Advocacy Award recognizes a nurse who has made positive impact on individuals and groups of nurses through an advocacy for nurses' well-being, and made significant contributions to the growth of nursing as a profession; or impacted the quality of patient care and life of vulnerable populations at BCHS or within the community: Cheri Jakway, BSN, RN.


• The Professional Award honors a nurse who consistently demonstrates the highest professional behaviors and values: Nina Ainsley, BS, RN, CRNI.

Telisa Ramirez, administrative assistant in the patient care services department was presented the Administration Award and the BCHS Skin, Wound & Ostomy group received the Team Award.

"These recognitions promote continued clinical and service excellence," says Ann Pelissier Neeld, RN, MSN, MBA, vice president of patient care services and chief nursing officer at BCHS. "They also encourage personal and professional development while celebrating excellence in BCHS nursing."

"BCHS is certainly proud of all of our nurses," adds Linda Klavon, clinical nurse specialist for professional practice. "We especially celebrate all of the award nominees and recipients."

Members of the BCHS Nursing Practice Coordinating Council; the Staff Development, Education, and Research Committee; and the former Work Life Balance Council developed the criteria to recognize outstanding nurses within the health system.
