Equity in Care

To better understand the health care needs of our patients, Battle Creek Health System will begin asking a few new questions during patient registration about race and preferred language. While the answers may seem obvious, it is important that we collect accurate information directly from our patients. Participation is voluntary.

Why are we asking these questions? We are collecting these data so we can better understand the health care needs of our patients and the communities we serve.

How is a patient's race related to their health? Studies show that there are differences in health needs among racial and ethnic groups. We don't know all of the causes of these variances, but we want to learn more so we can better treat them.

In terms of preferred language, we want to make certain we communicate with our patients in the best possible way.

We hope if anyone asks you why BCHS is doing this, we hope you will help us by explaining that this is one more way we are trying to improve our patient care.
