Cardiac Health Services
Rehabilitation is a key component of heart care within the Cardiac Health Services. Bronson Battle Creek offers a Phase II and a Phase III Cardiac Rehab program.
Phase II is for patients who have had
- A Heart attack
- Open-heart surgery
- Heart transplantation
- Balloon angioplasty or stent insertion
- Stable angina (chest pain)
This program is designed to get patients back to life after heart disease and give them confidence and knowledge to live a healthy lifestyle. It consists of a 12-week monitored exercise program, which includes nutrition counseling, stress management classes and continued education. In the beginning an integral component of Phase II is family involvement, especially if lifestyle changes are warranted. Patients attend two to three times a week to strengthen their heart, body and minds to help prevent further cardiovascular events. Other benefits of Cardiac Rehab include:

- Reduced coronary risk factors in patients with heart disease
- Extended overall survival
Upon completion of Phase II, patients can join the Phase III supervised program.
Phase III Cardiac Rehab is an ongoing program that allows continued exercise with the support of staff in a group setting three days a week. It is designed for people with existing heart problems or for those simply wishing to improve their level of cardiovascular fitness. The initial visit entails assessment by Cardiac Health Services staff. Each person’s medical needs are evaluated and a program is customized according to individual need.
Bronson Battle Creek Cardiac Rehabilitation program is certified by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR).
Phase II program participants need a physician referral. Phase III allows for physician referral or self referral.
